ABOUT US
Welcome to ShortStick
When it comes to cinema and the Oscars it always feels like short films and getting the short end of the stick. Lack of coverage, lack of predictions from experts and an afterthought in the conversation. With this site we hope to change that, highlighting shorts that stick with you, reviews, predictions, and news on what is happening in the world of shorts. We as a team have a passion for short film, whether it be learning something fascinating in a short time with documentary shorts, exploring different styles of animation in animated shorts or the art of story-telling in a confined time space with live action shorts.

Founder

Brandon MacMurray
Brandon spends most of his day working in a Medical Lab but one of his biggest passions has been movies ever since he attended TIFF in 2015. Over the years, short films have really spoken to him and he hopes to use this platform as a way to promote them.

Pedro Lima
Pedro Lima is a Brazilian economics undergraduate student that has loved cinema since he was a young child. He is a member of the International Documentary Association (IDA) and the Gotham Film and Media Institute. He also has directed, written, and produced student shorts about social impact.
Executive Editor and Chief Film Critic

Joshua Hunt
Joshua Hunt is a cinephile whose heart beats in sync with movie musicals. He has an undying admiration for the cinécriture of Agnès Varda, and a penchant for the enigmatic worlds of David Lynch. Joshua’s Technicolor dreams are woven with subtitles, and his film collection is practically a masterpiece in itself. When not discussing the intricacies of French New Wave, you'll find him lost in the labyrinth of visually stunning giallo mysteries or swept away by the graceful choreography of wuxia epics. Joshua is excited to bring his many years of writing and editing experience to ShortStick.
Staff Writer

Robin Hellgren
After discovering the joys of following the Academy Awards race back in 2018, Robin's interest in the silver screen has only grown year over year. With a move to the UK came the first of many film festival experiences at the BFI London Film Festival 2020. Today he is a voting member of International Documentary Association (IDA) and Film Independent (Spirits), and a festival programmer for the AoDR Film Festival. While he thrives in heavy gut punching dramas and rapid poetic dialogue exchanges, his guilty pleasure watches also includes anything with big world building elements or a family friendly mystery/adventure combo.
We have been lucky to also include many guest writers from across the industry including:
